Song Writing Contest
Calling songwriters in the Western North Carolina region who identify with the women’s experience.
Write and submit a song relating to one or more aspects of Womansong’s mission: “Singing together for joy, social justice, and community!”
No fee to enter. $1,000 prize! Womansong will create an arrangement for treblevoice chorus and feature you & your song at our performances in May 2027. Submit your original song by October 1, 2026.

Womansong seeks an Assistant Director who will support our musical goals and serve as a leader in providing a nurturing and positive environment for singers’ creative expression.
Required Skills
- Musical: Vocal and piano skills, choral conducting, small ensemble leadership.
- Human relations: Positive and effective communication in person and in writing.
- Administrative: Organizational skills, time management, able to work independently and in collaboration with others.
- Tech-savvy: Fluent in electronic mediums such as Google Docs, notational software of choice, choir management software; ability to record and edit sound recordings for rehearsal tracks.

In 1988, Womansong, under the leadership of founding director Linda Metzner, created the New Start Fund to provide a hand up for a brighter and safe future to women in Western North Carolina. Through grants and scholarships, we support women who are starting on a new path to greater self-sufficiency.
The New Start Fund is administered by a volunteer group of Womansong members. This committee raises funds, and working with social service agencies and community colleges, distributes the funds.
