We welcome all who may be interested in joining and want to get acquainted!
Prospective members are asked to visit two rehearsals to experience the variety of our music and style. After two visits, we will schedule you for an audition.
Womansong meets on Monday evenings from 7-9pm. When in “concert mode” (six weeks before performance), we rehearse 6:30-9:00pm. Our rehearsals are held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Asheville (UUCA), 1 Edwin Place, Asheville 28801.
The Director and Assistant Director will guide you through the audition process, which we aim to be a friendly, low-stress experience. We’ll ask you to:
Sing along with the piano on a short warm-up to explore your vocal range
Learn a short, easy song and sing it in harmony with the directors – a score will be provided, but you are also welcome to learn it by ear
Once you are a member, you are expected to attend weekly rehearsals and monthly sectional rehearsals, and commit to one full season of Womansong performances. We look forward to seeing you soon!
In order to ensure quality across the ensemble, we ask that you miss no more than 3 rehearsals throughout the regular rehearsal season of each concert cycle. For pre-planned absences such as travel, please sign out on Chorus Connection to assist the directors in rehearsal planning. Once we enter “concert mode,” attendance at all rehearsals should be prioritized other than for the most extenuating circumstances, which should be communicated directly and as soon as possible with the Artistic Director.
In fairness to others, singers who accumulate more than three absences may be asked to pass a singing check before being cleared to perform. Singing checks are run like auditions and evaluated by the Artistic Director, Assistant Artistic Director, and Music Section Leader prior to the beginning of concert mode. Those who are unable to pass the singing check will be asked to participate in the concert in a non-performance role.
Please communicate with your Administrative Section Leader regarding all absences. We like to hear from you and make sure you are okay!
Thank you for your commitment to Womansong!
